Received her bachelors in Computer Science (Honorable Mention) from the Ateneo de Manila University in 1988, her masters in Applied Computer Science from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 1992, and her PhD in Computer Technology in Education from Nova Southeastern University in 2002. She is a full professor at the Department of Information Systems and Computer Science of the Ateneo de Manila University. Her research specializations include technology in education and artificial intelligence in education. She serves as one of the managers of the Ateneo Programming Varsity. Dr. Rodrigo authored the previous editions of the Bitwise series as well as several children’s books including Tamales Day!, A Life with the Poor, Saint of the Gutters, A Time to Grow, and A Passion for Science.

Jessica O. Sugay

Graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2004 with a degree in Computer Science. She is a faculty member of the Department of Information Systems and Computer Science of the Ateneo de Manila University and the Moderator of the Computer Society of the Ateneo. She serves as one of the managers of the Ateneo Programming Varsity and as one of the coordinators of the Integrated Ateneo Formation Program.

Andre Tiu Tan

Grade 7 Author

Andre is a junior taking Computer Science with specializing in Data Science Analytics at the Ateneo de Manila University. He has been a member of the Programming Varsity for 2 years, and wants to learn much about “data stuff.” Aside from programming, Andre enjoys playing the guitar, making music, watching Steven Universe and playing Tetris.

Hadrian Jules Y. Ang

Grade 7 Author

Hadrian is a student at the Ateneo de Manila University, currently pursuing a major in Computer Science with a specialization in Business Intelligence. He has also been a member of the Ateneo Programming Varsity for the past 3 years. Aside from competitive programming, he is interested in algorithmic graph theory, data mining, poetry and novels. After he graduates, he hopes he can study abroad and then return to the Ateneo to teach Computer Science.

Victor Antonio "Icon" M. Ortega

Grade 7

Icon is a student of the Ateneo de Manila University, currently pursuing a major in Computer Science, and Digital Game Design and Development. He helped design and balance some of the puzzles found in the augmented reality game “Igpaw.” Currently the head of a Trading Cards club and is an enthusiast of games like Cardfight Vanguard, Magic: The Gathering, and Force of Will.

Jenina Isabel L. Sanchez

Grade 8

Nina is a student at the Ateneo de Manila University, currently pursuing a major in Computer Science with a minor in Japanese Studies. She was a member of the Ateneo Programming Varsity for two years. She previously served as the Associate Vice President for Training for the Computer Society of the Ateneo. She enjoys playing video games and drawing.

Aaron Abram D. Ong

Grade 8

Aaron received his baccalaureate in Computer Science (Magna Cum Laude) from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2014, as well as a minor in French Studies. He currently works as a software developer at World Partner Inc. — SplitmediaLabs Ltd. He plans to take up graduate studies one day and join his alma mater’s faculty. He likes to read books and play video games in his spare time, with The Sims games being his favorite. Sometimes he sings along to the songs on his phone during traffic.

Paco Adajar

Grade 8

graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics, Major in Mathematical Finance from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2013, and a Master of Science in Mathematics from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 2016 where he is currently an instructor at the Institute of Mathematics. He was a member of the Ateneo Programming Varsity for one year. Apart from mathematics and programming, his interests include Pokémon, basketball, music, obscure poetic forms, and terrible puns.

Romell Ian B. De La Cruz

Grade 9

Ian is a student of the Ateneo de Manila University, currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science. He is a developer for The GUIDON, the official student publication of the Ateneo, and a senior developer for the Computer Society of the Ateneo. He is interested in web development, focusing on programming using Javascript. He also has experience in WordPress development.

Leona Jean A. Lao

Grade 9

Leona graduated magna cum laude from the Ateneo de Manila University with a degree in Computer Science in 2016. A Philippine Science High School graduate, she has also studied in the National University of Singapore, done research and corporate internships both in the Philippines and abroad, and is now working as a Data Analyst. She owes her love for web development to her Neopets, whose petpages she lovingly worked on as a child. Aside from programming, she enjoys curling up with a good book and eating. Sometimes she writes.

Mark Joshua U. Tan

Grade 9

Graduated Cum Laude and Program Awardee with a degree in Computer Science, specializing in Business Intelligence, and a minor in Management from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2013. He competed for the Ateneo Programming Varsity during his four-year stay at the Ateneo. He is currently a software engineer and web developer, and worked at several startups including By Implication, Inc. and Icannhas, Inc.

Charlene Kate S. Tolentino

Grade 10

graduated with a degree in Computer Science, specializing in Business Intelligence, from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2015. Her four-year stay as a member of the Ateneo Programming Varsity has gained her both the drive for programming and the best family outside of home one could hope to find. She is currently a software engineer and iOS developer at Azeus Systems Philippines Ltd., working on enhancements one day (and night) at a time.

Jayzon F. Ty

Grade 10

received his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, with a specialization in Interactive Multimedia and a minor in Japanese Studies, from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2014. He is currently a lecturer for the Department of Information Systems and Computer Science of the Ateneo de Manila University. He likes playing/developing video games, programming random things, watching anime/reading manga, and playing musical instruments.
