New basic WRITING SKILLS, a self-contained handwriting series from Prep to Grade 6 has been designed with the view that writing is a vital element in the learning process of the children. Although there is a need to give lessons in handwriting apart from activities that require organizing ideas, it should not be treated as a separate entity but rather an integral part of learning. The series builds on acquisition of knowledge and skills that are expected to be developed in each grade level. Activities are planned to focus on the micro skills of handwriting, correct letter formation and interest building. Letters are grouped by “families”— those using similar strokes — for easy retention and fluency of letter formation.
